Please be careful with your hands. If you're left handed start drawing from your left and move rightwards to avoid resting your hand on the drawn portion. Also use a tissue or newspaper to rest your hands
Use a separate pen for detailed areas and another one for the shading. This is because as the ink starts to flow more freely with use the texture of the ink etc changes. That's gonna be my tip for the day!
using a Biro pen for art is a lot more difficult than using a pencil. The trick is to use only light but uniform pressure to do the shading and get the shapes and forms. You need to have a steady hand (and arm) for this.

I found doing the uniform strokes steadily really difficult. Add to that the constant problems I had with ink clogging and smudging I had to finally give up. I now stick to pencil art - works OK with me! Please don't call me a quitter though!! add a comment

When shading you can either use straight line shading or cross-hatching. You may need to change this too for different pasrt os the same drawing. add a comment
The technique is the same as pen and ink drawing, but you have possibilities for shading by varying the pressure, and you can't get those broad line ink pen strokes.
