Normally, when you switch gears in a standard vehicle, you press down the clutch, change gears, then release the clutch. Between the 2nd and 3rd gears, you may want to double clutch. First, you press down the clutch. Then quickly, you put the car in neutral, release the clutch, repress it, and put the car in gear.

When a clutch is weak it becomes necessary to push it in, rapidly, twice to engage it. After pushing it in the first time, begin letting it out slowly. You will feel the clutch start to engage almost immediately. Quickly push it back in and start to let it out again. It should, now engage.
