There are over the counter shampoos for lice. You will also need a "nit" comb to dislodge lice from hair shafts. Obviously you can't do this yourself. After head is treated, you have to wash all clothing and bedding to make sure all lice and eggs are dead. Some doctors recommend even washing curtains and drapes.

There are many head lice preparations available in drug stores. Be sure to get one that kills eggs. Apply one of those to the scalp and let stay on as directed. Then shampoo and rinse, and use a fine-tooth comb to get the nits (eggs) out. Repeat if necessary.
