How do you construct a place value chart?

I'm teaching math for the first time.

To construct a place value chart, draw three vertical lines equally spaced and a horizontal line through the three lines at the top of the lines, drawing past the vertical lines. At the top of the right hand column, write ones, at the top of the column to the left of it write tens, and title the third column hundreds.

Using a piece of construction paper fold in half the long way and cut out slits and under the slits have them paste the words in the correct spot
