Are there any places in the world where it is safe to hitchhike?

In all honesty, I don't believe there is anywhere in the world that is safe to hitchhike. We live in a world now with such mean and unstable people. It isn't like it use to be say 20 years ago. The best bet is to take a taxi or bus, not put yourself in an unsafe situation.

The short answer is no. People who will prey on others are not unique to any one culture or geographic area. However, by and large, the chance of you actually encountering such a predator while hitchhiking is very low. So, no, there isn't anywhere it is 'safe' to hitchhike.

No! Realistically, hitchhiking is dangerous. Your odds of something bad happening maybe lower in European countries where more people walk or ride bikes. But in the US you take a big risk.I'm not saying that everyone out driving is bad and going to hurt you. You just don't know who your riding with.
