How do you clean up ceiling spots?

The spots could be caused by smoke and humidity. If you cannot clean them with just water, try Spic N Span. If the spots are too hard to clean and are too many and you just want them gone, use paint to cover them up.

First, make sure there is no water damage above causing the spots. If there is, fix that problem first. Then you can use a primer like Kilz to cover the spots and then repaint or finish to match the existing ceiling.

If these are water spots, you should get it checked out. There might be mold hidden where you cannot see. You should treat the source of the problem. To cover it up, painting is recommended. However, if the source of the problem remains, the spot will reappear and you will have to cover it up over and over again.
