You have to take the top and bottom part off the steering wheel column. Then you have to take your key and turn the switch to the ACC position. Once in this position, you must trigger the the button that releases the key cylinder. Once that is out, you put the new on in and go from there.

Depending on the vehicle make and model, a key cylinder may be located on the steering column or dashpad. In order to remove and replace this component, one must lock the steering wheel and remove/drop the steering column to access the lock cylinder. Once disassembled and located, the key cylinder is easily removed and replaced by removing the securing pin.

This really depends on the year and make of the car. Some cars have a small hole behind the key cylinder allowing you to put in a screw drive and remove it. Others you have to take entire seering assembly apart.
