The replacement of a dryer cord is very simple, only a few screws; however, before undertaking this task, check with a licensed electrician. Each cord configuration means something different.

The different types of prongs are for different amperage and if you attempt to change the dryer cord to a different prong you risk electrical fire and shock. It is a smarter thing to change the outlet that the dryer plugs into with a new one. Just get a new outlet from home depot and install the new one.

Replacement dryer cords can be purchased from most appliance stores. There is typically a removable panel on the back of the dryer where the electrical cord comes out of the unit, containing a wiring block. Your dryer's owner's manual should include instructions for properly wiring up the replacement cord.

You simply disconnect the original cord. Your dryer should have enough screw terminals for the four prong cord. The red and black wires are the "hot" wires. The white wire is the neutral. The bare or green wire is the ground.
