Bougainvillea plants grow best in hot and sunny areas. They can be grown in pots, hanging baskets, or in the ground where there's no hard freezes. They will bloom a lot if they are fertilized on a regular basis with a high nitrogen fertilizer. Pinch the ends for more blooms.

The soil should be kept moist. They should be kept warm minimum temperature 60 degrees, maximum 85. Keep them in full sunlight. Fertilize them moderately. Yes, they are poisonous.

Bougainvillea is a beautiful plant that needs warmth and water. This plant is traditionally planted in gardens in the southern states but is found in hanging baskets in the north. It should have dead flowers removed and should be fertilized regularly. Northerners need to bring in hanging bougainvillea plants in early fall and cut them back.

Bougainvilleas are not toxic, but like most plants their sap can irritate your skin so wear gloves. They like water, and don't like to dry out between waterings.
