Shut off the main water supply. Unscrew the tap that is leaking, this usually involves a long screwdriver through the handle or unscrewing the part the handle mounts to. Replace the rubber O-ring inside with a ring of the same size and thickness using a pair of pliers to reach it. Screw the tap handle back in. Turn water on.

depending upon the shower faucet you can unscrew the screws then handle or knob off the shower faucet after you unscrew the nut that is holding the stem in that place next you unscrew the stem in the clockwise direction, replace the rubber washer on the shower stem is located at the end that goes into the pipe.
