How do they decide what the top 10 party schools are?

There are two ranking for Top 10 Party Schools; the most famous is done by Playboy magazine. They say that they use info from Facebook pages, surveys with students, and other information. It's not very scientific, and the definition of "party school" isn't clear.

Party school rankings are determined by input from students, social media pages, input from alumni, feedback from campus representatives at schools across the country, and interviews with students, local citizens, merchants, police and others. Other considerations include the sports teams' records, access to beaches/skiing, bars/party venues, scheduled celebrations, male-female ratios, academics and other factors.

Easy! Deciding revolves around what's fun and exciting in the area surrounding the school. The beaches, breweries, winning teams, and girl to guy stats are what makes a school rock!

The top 10 party schools are determined through student response surveys. There might be a discrepancy with the schools you think are the biggest party schools and what they list because the top 10 schools could simply have a higher response rate for those type of surveys. Plus, those lists are totally arbitrary.
