How do I troubleshoot a windshield washer fluid pump?

The fluid flows sporadically or not at all.

First, check the filter reservoir to make sure the pump intake is not clogged by debris. If it is, you can either remove the clog or replace the intake.

Windshield washer pumps are often clogged with dirt and grime, especially in older cars. Your best bet is to go to any auto parts store and pick up a windshield washer fluid flush kit. They run anywhere from $8.99 to $19.99 and do a great job dissolving the sediment. It's a job you can do on your own.
