How do I stop that "old" smell in furniture?

Is it the fabric or wood that smells? If it is the fabric, get some fabric refreshers at the grocery store like Febreeze. Febreeze can get the smells of smoke, pets, and "oldness" out of any fabric. If it is the wood part that smells old, this can be harder to fix. Try strong dusting/wood cleaners several days a week.

The old smell as well as the old look of the furniture could be stopped by getting the furniture polished afresh. Furniture polish is available with the furniture and wood traders.

Use an air freshener, or a spray. Make sure there isn't any mold in the furniture and try to vacum all hair out of it. Washing the piece of furniture will minimize smell.
