If its an older box spring, one that you can see the coils if you get underneath, just spray it down with some DW-40. Try to avoid using too much, and if at all possible, keep from hitting the fabric. The smell is not terrible but if it sticks around it will probably bother you!

sometimes the squeaking from a box spring can be cause by over moisture and swelling in the wood. Try using a dehumidifier in your room to reduce the moisture from the air and possibly the wood as well. Plus the water collected can be recycled to water your plants around the house!

The easiest way to tackle the problem is add some padding. To do this first isolate the squeak by crawling underneath the boxspring while having someone induce the squeaking. Once the origin is identified pad the area with batting or such.

If your box springs on your bed are squeaking it could be telling you that it is now time for a new bed. Most beds last only five to ten years before a replacement is needed.

You can try putting a "bunky board" or slats made of 1x4's under the box spring, and over them something like a mover's quilt to cushion it.
