In Windows XP, a. gif file can be opened in the Windows Photo Preview. If you are using Vista or Windows 7, a. gif can be opened in Internet Explorer.

. gif files cannot be opened specially in windows vista because of the unavailability of the software for it. the vista only supports jpeg format and others. however save the gif file and right click and select the properties. then you can select a mode to view the file in another file like jpeg etc
