It is not illegal to travel to Columbia. You must be thinking of Cuba. The United States does not have any imbargo or travelling restrictions to Columbia. Just get your valid passport and airline ticket and you are good to go.

A passport is foremost proof of citizenship. U. S. citizens have U. S. passports. Columbian citizens have Columbian passports. While the U. S. State Department cautions against travel in Columbia, it is not "illegal" to go there.
