To naturally soothe bug bites, the best thing to do is use intermittent ice packs on them. Make sure not to damage the tissue by applying ice for too long. Also, keep the area as clean and free of bacteria as possible. The ice should help the swelling go down.

The cheapest and most effective way to soothe bug bites its with rubbing alcohol. Put the alcohol on a cotton ball and generously apply to the bites. You can also use a dab of toothpaste. The most natural way is the plantain weed that grows in your back yard.

Chamomile lotion, zinc ointment, and other remedies can help soothe bug bites. Clean the bite and use a ointment/lotion to soothe the skin. Vinegar can also help ease the pain. Put a band-aid on the bite to protect the skin. If the itch is very bad, cortisone cream can help.

Right off the bat, your best help is baking soda, this stuff is GREAT! I carry it on all my mountain climbs. It takes even a bad or dangerous sting right off, applied in a paste. It's the backpacker and mother's best friend. Meat tenderizer works also, but you usually don't carry it in your pack!

You can apply meat tenderizer to the area or you can make a paste of baking soda and water. There are many treatment sprays available in the drugstore.

Clean the bite with soap and warm water thoroughly before splashing the affected area with cold water, apply an antibiotic ointment and cover with a moist washcloth. On top of this place an icepack to keep the area cool until any possible swelling subsides. An alternative to an antibiotic ointment is honey.

Rub the bitten place with cut onion for few minutes. This is specially effective for bee bites and similar bites.
