Quail like grasses, vetch, clover, legumes and lupine. A good feed combination is cracked corn, millet and oat, rye, wheat and barley grains. They like blackberry, manzanita, huckleberry and Oregon grape. Ash, Oak and Hazelnut trees give them seeds and nuts they are partial to. Feed away from areas where cats, fishers, raccoons and other predators are likely to be.

You can buy books from Agway or from Amazon. com to find different ways to make quail feed. You want to mimic what they eat in the wild.

There are a number of things to consider in making Quail feed, including the type of Quail, the age of the birds, and if they are being raised for meat or eggs. It would be best to find a book or publication from an extension service that has specific information on making Quail feed that suits your birds and the purpose you are raising them for.
