One thing you can use is the old body powders and mix with baking soda. You will only be sprinkling it on the carpet and vacuuming it up. It will use up the old powders, offer a fresh scent and the baking soda will deodorize the carpet. Make sure the body powder is not extremely fine powder.

You can use just plain baking soda. Or add a few drops of your favorite fresh smelling perfume or essential oils to the baking soda. Mix well, say by shaking it in a paper bag, and let it sit overnight for the scent to distribute throughout the powder.
