You can but a kit online to test your home for asbestos. Not an option? You can contact a local contractor or code enforcement for help testing it. If you know the name of the company that made it, you can contact them for information on your floor.

Asbestos supposedly was taken from public reach in the 1970s to early 1980s. You can call someone who works in the hazardous waste business and ask them. He will probably want to examine your flooring or knows someone who can.

Asbestos was used between late 70's and mid 80's. So hopefully this 1987 vinyl flooring is safe. It's not expensive to get it checked.

Most vinyl flooring from the 70's has asbestos but in the 80's the use of asbestos wasn't as widespread. You can always pay a professional to come in and check that out for you. That can be very expensive though so you may be better off just replacing the flooring.

To find out if there's asbestos in your 1987 vinyl flooring, you might want to take a look at the building plans of your house. You could also try to contact the company that took care of the flooring in 1987. Proper records would more than likely give you an answer.

You can look online and see if there are any websites that show types that did have asbestos in it. I would call a professional to look at it to make sure. You should replace it if it is there because being exposed to asbestos can be harmful to your health.
