The way to tell if your snail is alive is to lift it up and check for movements. Snail do not live for a very long time, they die after a short period of time. I had some pet snails and they only lived for 3 weeks, the last thing I saw was dried up shells.

Pick the snail up and touch the underbody, it shuold feel cold and slimey. If it is dried up then the snail is no longer alive and should be disposed of immediately so it doesn't decompose within the living quarters. If the snail is missing its feelers that is an indicator that it is no longer living.

My best suggestion would be to pick it up and see if it is moving. Though, it is possible it died.

Poke it with a stick and see what happens. Or threaten to throw it away if it doesn't move. If it still doesn't then just throw it away and get a new one. They are cheap.
