You should watch for signs of weight loss, decrease in appetite, not wanting to play or go for walks, decrease in eliminating, vomiting, or not drinking water. If any of these signs occur call your vet. Also watch for hair loss, itching, tumors, and personality changes. If your dog is acting aggressive take him to vet right away.

The way I know if my dog is sick is if she acts strange for more than 1 day. I know something is wrong if she doesn't want to play or go outside. You can also watch to see if your dog is going to the bathroom normally. Sometimes they get bladder infections.

If your dog suddenly changes his behavior he could be sick. For instance if he suddenly won't eat or won't play or becomes unusually snappy that is a signal he's not right. Also your thermometer is your friend. If his temp is much above or much below 101 degrees Farenheit he needs checking out.
