How do I keep a ferret from scratching something?

Be sure to keep items on hand that it is acceptable for the ferret to scratch. When it scratches on the furniture gently pick up the ferret and take it to the acceptable thing to be scratched and be consistent about it and he will get the idea.

Buy a cat scratching post and show the ferret how to scratch it. Use a water spray bottle every time your ferret scratches the furniture.

Ferrets have a natural urge to dig/ scratch. Its mainly for grooming that it'd scratch furniture, the best idea would probably be a scratching post specifically for a ferret. You could also make it a dig box (Fill a box full of rice thats tall enough that it won't be flying out of the box as it digs)

any animal that exists can be trained to stop something. you could try getting scratching post ike what cats use. you could also take it to a vet and have the nails trimmed or cut

Use a spray bottle of room tempature water and spray the ferret when you see them in the act. Do not resort to hitting or yelling at the ferret. Scratching is a normal anilma behavior, so give them somthing that is ok for them to scratch. Try a cat scratching post.

There are a few things you can try. The first is to create a "dig Box". Fill a small box with rice or sand, they should prefer to dig in that the to scratch other things. Try shouting NO! and use and angry face and gesture. Also try time out. Put them in a carrier for a few minutes.

I would suggest getting a spray bottle and filling it with water. Just spray her and say no every time she scratches inappropriatly, just as you would discipline a cat. You could even provide her with an alternative appropriate scratching spot and redirect her there when she stractches immeadiately after spraying her.
