A whole house surge protector would have to be installed at the service entrance. You will need to have your service provider disconnect your power and then install the surge protector between the main entrance conductors and your main pannel in your house. This will need to be done by someone licensed because an inspection will be required.
You'll need two empty circuit breaker slots on the main power panel/load center. You install two 20 amp surge protectors, to protect each power phase, according to included instructions.
Surge protector can be placed in the breaker box with a wire called the "ground" wire. You need to be an electrician and know what you are doing or be able to read good instructions. Make sure the power is turned off before beginning and electrical work in the home.
I would call a licensed electrician - AC Mains voltage is extremely dangerous not to mention that in .most developed countries it's actually illegal unless you licensed.
You will need a large surge protector that you attached toward the bottom of the area where you want to install in your home. Then you will need to wire through the wall of your home through the sockets where you want to install in your home to be protected.
You will need some screws that will attached to the panel of where you want to place the surge protector. You will also need enough wiring in order to get the cords connected to the sockets so you are able to protect the surge protector. With this then you will have no problems with a surge protector.
