For 110 volts: The hot (black) wire goes to the narrower flat blade of the plug. The neutral wire (white) goes to the fatter flat blade. The ground wire (no shield or sometimes green insulation) goes to the round pin. For 220: Black wires go to the 2 power prongs and the white goes to neutral.
