In order to fix this problem, restart your computer. Then go to the start menu. Once there you will find "control panel". Go into this and select keyboard. Uncheck any and all boxes. Restart your computer and your keyboard will now work.
Holding down the shift key for more than 8 seconds will lock your keyboard. To get around this go to Start - Settings - control panel - accessibility option. Ensure that all the 3 boxes under the keyboard tab are unchecked.
