How do I go about replacing a lead bathtub drain line?

Answer by  DavidS (1517)

The easiest way is to cut out and remove the pipe to a point of easy access. Then reconnect a plastic pipe to the existing pipe with a fernco coupling.

If I were you, i would go for a steal drain line, because the lead may poison the water. First you should look on e-bay, or craigs list. if you can't find any, you should then check antique stores in your area. They usually have old bathtubs, and you could probably negotiate something with the owner.
