When killing stubborn plants, you must go for the roots. If you are unable to dig the roots out, cut the tree to the ground and pour on liberal amounts of vegetation killer, such as Round-Up. Repeated treatments may be necessary.

Spray the trees with Round-Up. This is a good choice because it is a very effective herbicide and it is not toxic to animals.
