How do I go about drawing caricatures?

Caricatures require some skill at life drawing, so I would start with practicing drawing actual faces as realistically as possible. Once you get competent at that, try to exaggerate the most distinguishing/interesting features of your subject's face. Also keep in mind their personality, and particular gestures that they make. A good caricature looks more like the person than their face.

The way to draw a good caricature is to exaggerate the most prominent feature(s) of the person you're drawing (e.g. large nose, large chin, large teeth - exaggerate their size). To start drawing caricatures, first practice drawing normal faces, then start experimenting with exaggerating their prominent features.

To draw good caricatures you have to have some artistic ability, though that should be a given. You also have to be very good at observing people and picking up on traits that are unique to them or stand out. Then, translate that to paper.

You're right, that's a very fun hooby and it will gain you the admiration and sympathy of people you meet and draw. First of all let's concentrate on the peculiarity of the face you want to draw. Two or three physical points and the overall expression are the keys. Second, exaggerate them in order to achieve the funny effect. Done.
