By using a skimmer and running the filter, all bugs will be caught and can be easily disposed of. Another way is to place a cover over the pool when not in use to keep all bugs and leaves out.
I put a very diluted solution of soapy water in a dish soap bottle and just squirt it along the water's edge, especially where there are a lot of the bugs. They die instantly.
