On most modern personal computing systems utilizing the ps/2 mouse protocols will certify the mouse automatically. On really old systems or with really old mouse hardware a special driver or even specialized programing may be necessry to ensure proper functionality of both the computer and the mouse. If none of these things work it could be an incompatibility issue.
