Well the sell special bits called hole saws for drills. They come in sets of various sizes depending on what is need. A center bit creates a pilot hole will a ring of teeth cut the hole. This will create a hole for the handle and all you need is to drill the catch section out using a jig.

Measure the diameter of the hole you want cut. Buy a circular saw bit. These can be purchased at any hardware store. Get the size bit you need for the door knob hole. Place your bit on a drill and saw the desired size hole.

You will need a hole cutter bit for a power drill. These can be found at most major hardware retailers in the tools section. Size ranges often go from 1" on up. You should also get a jig to help you locate both the knob and the lock.
