How do I create purple fire using chemicals?

I saw this done in my chemistry class once, and would like to know how the purple fire was made.

Potassium Chloride will burn purple. You can do this by burning the solid itself, or dissolving in an alcohol and burning the alcohol in small amounts.

I common way of making fire of different colors is to burn different salts of metals in the flame. Some will burn purple, some vibrant red, some yellow, etc. To get purple, try burning a LITTLE potassium permanganate. Be careful. Potassium permanganate is poisonous.
