If you're only replacing the filter, you will want to place an oil catching pan under the engine (under the filter, to be exact) and then, with all your might, remove the old oil filter. Use a little oil on the new filter's O-ring before installing the new filter.

Locate the oil filter on the side of the engine. Place drain pan under oil filter, then with a filter wrench, loosen and remove the filter from the engine.
