The safest way to change the company name on a business account is to close out the old account and open a new account for the new name.

If your business is a dba/doing business as you can just change it to what ever you like. Just order new checks and stationary. If incorporated you need to make addendums to your incorporation papers, a lawyer would be the best to do this, or just set up a different company under the different name.

If it is the legal name, then completing and submitting a Doing Business As (DBA) and necessary tax related documents will be required. If it is on an bank account, creditor or other contact the firm and ask their procedures.

Register new name with state for uniquness. Take or send documentation to the company/banks to update account information with updated business name deleting old company name.
