Give it lots of love. Try and make it as easy as it can be for the animal to get its food and water the less it has to walk around the easier it will be for it.

Make sure you are feeding your beagle a high quality food. You might want to look into a senior food. Also take him to the vet for checkups regularly.

Watch for back problems since Beagles are prone to this problem. Especially pay attention to the shoulders and front legs. Also look out for calcium deposits and slipped discs.

It would be smart to take a trip to the vet and get him checked out. As dogs get older, they get more frail, like us. A vet can give you some medicines to help with joint pain and other issues. Dogs like beagles with shorter legs and bigger bodies often experience joint and back pain.

The main thing regarding older dogs are the legs which could develop arthritis in later years. The earlier this is diagnosed the more effective the treatment will be. Buy bowls that can be placed at dog height hence less bending plus a ramp for the owner's bed!

Beagles are known to put on excess weight especially as they get older. The added weight can put stress on their knees. It is important to keep the beagle active and make sure that a vet is seen if there is any limping which could indicate knee stress. Make sure to watch the beagles diet.

Beagles are generally pretty easy to care for as they age. You do have to watch for weight gain. A good quality food made for senior dogs usually is adequate. Also, make sure your dog has a clean comfortable place of their own to rest and moderate exercise.

You should keep him updated with all his shots and taken to a vet regularly. Also, as he ages his bones will get frail so you need to check that.

Alot of times as they age they will get incontinant and forget themselves as well as there hearing and sight get bad or go completely. But take it into the vet and get a check done they will be able to tell you what to watch for.
