Dry sockets happen after you have teeth pulled. IT is caused by improper healing of the spot the teeth were removed from. IF you haven't had a tooth pulled you won't get them.

Following a tooth extraction a blood clot forms in the area which aids healing. Patients experiencing dry socket, for one reason or another, lose this blood cloth thus slowing the healing process and causing a bad odor and pain. Generally it can be avoided by following post-op directions.

Dry sockets are a fairly common occurrence after having a tooth extracted. What typically happens in this case is that a blood clot that normally inhabits the place where the tooth was extracted does not form. The exact reasons for this happening have not been determined. Since the blood clot is lost, healing becomes delayed.
