How did the Hershey Chocolate Company get started?

Milton Hershey started the company in 1894 after running a couple different businesses, namely a caramel company and a small candy store. At this point he mainly sold hot cocoa mixes, chocolate-covered caramels, and baking chocolate. He perfected the Hershey process in 1899 and began creating Hershey Kisses in 1907.

Milton Hershey founded the candy company in 1876. In 1893, he discovered the art of chocolate making at the World's Fair in Chicago. In 1894, he started experimenting with chocolate as a coating for caramels. In 1900 he introduced milk chocolate to America.
