How did the dove and the olive branch become symbols of peace?

I thought the doves were sent off of Noah's Ark to find dry land and they brought an olive branch to show that there was dry land and the water's were receding. I guess that also meant that everything was well on earth and it became the symbol of peace.

the Dove and olive branch have direct correlation with the bible. It symbolizes that the Great Flood had ended. Noah had sent a dove 3 time to find land, and on the second trip the Dove brought back an olive branch indicating that the flood had ended.
