Do not eat or cook a tuna that has a foul smell and greenish color. It should be immediately put to waste. It must not have a funny or awkward taste. We may also check the expiry date of the tuna as labelled on its original packaging.

Smell is the best indicator of when tuna has gone bad- it will smell off to you. In the case of canned tuna, the expiration date is a good indicator, but trust your nose over the date. If the appearance looks off to you, it's probably a good idea to toss it.

There are 2 good ways to do this. The first one is the smell. Fish smells fishy, yes, but bad fish smells really bad. There is a difference in the smell if it is bad. Second, there is the color. It will have a greenish color if it is really bad.
