How can you tell if your phone is tapped?

If the tapping is done well, which it usually is, you can't. Though if you hear echo sounds or think you hear someone else talking it could either be the phone wires getting crossed or someone listening in.

If your phone is tapped legally, you will not be able to tell. If it is tapped illegally, you will here a drop in sound when the other person picks up the phone. The best way to detect is to inspect your phone wires from your home outside. Note anything suspicious, destroy the wires and call the police.
