How can you remove or repair the tar build up in lungs from smoking?

I made the bad decision to pick up smoking when I was a teenager and now would like to have clear lungs.

After 4 years, your lungs have replaced every single cell with a brand new fresh cell. (4 years = new lungs). However, tar in the small openings stays forever and any DNA damage caused can make new cells grow incorrectly. This is why smoking does permanent damage.

All you have to do is to quit smoking. With time and exercise you lungs will clean themself. It took approximately a year per year you've smoked. But the result is sure and you can only be a better healthy state.

The first thing to do is stop smoking immediately if you have yet to do so. Depending on your age, how long you smoke, and if any damage is done, you may feel better right away, or it may take a while. Brisk walks are great too along with any cardiovascular exercises.

Naturally, your lungs will heal themselves if you were a previous smoker and now have quit. In ten year it will be like you never smoked.
