Dressing "indie" these days means you are independent (i.e. "indie") and showing your individuality. While black is a popular color, you don't want to look morbid so dress it up with some colorful accents like a belt or shoes. Vintage clothes from the 60s and 70s are also popular.

I wouldn't try to change your style too much, but you can add on to what you already do. If it's cooler out try adding sweaters or lawyers and maybe a scarf for your neck. Try mixing subtle patterns. Muted colors are usually more favored over bright or "loud" colors.

I think you'd make the best impression if you go as yourself, but you can try tight jeans, canvas shoes, check shirt, leather jacket & big hair.

First, wear skinny jeans and flats. Wear heavy eye makeup and a thin button-down cowboy shirt - you can find them anywhere, even Old Navy.

Dark colors like black go a long way. Skinny jeans, again darker colored. A flat iron can help straighten the hair with clips. Ironic t-shirts, choosing a funny and pertinent one can go a long way. Indie is mostly attitude after that, give the bands a chance and don't revert to popular trends.

Pants should be jeans, distressed if you have them. The top should be a t-shirt with an interesting print/logo on it. Maybe a leather or fitted suede/cord jacket on top.

Definitely go to a Goodwill or consignment shop. You will find some vintage clothes at either place. Vintage clothing will mark you as indie, especially if paired with boots. Also, don't wear a lot of make-up and don't overstyle your hair.

Wear some sneakers, jeans and a t-shirt. Don't try to look indie, trying too hard will only make stand out as a poser.
