Algae can be prevented from growing on your fountain by using a fountain algaceide. The water in the fountain should also be changed once a month. Algae thrives in bright light so you are not prepared for a lot of cleaning it may be a good idea to place your fountain in a shaded part of your garden.

The usual way is to chlorintate it, or use another algacide. A PH level that thwarts algae can be maintained with a swimming pool kit. Adjust the numbers, fountain water has more oxygen. Or just remove some of algae by brushing, making it attractive and screen to protect the pump.

There are several chemical and natural treatments for getting rid of algae in your foundation but it's best to be proactive about the location you put your fountain. Locating it in a section of your yard that receives the least sunlight is best, as algae is a plant and grows by the process of photosynthesis.
