As someone who suffers from clinical depression, I know only too well how debilitating it can be. In my case I needed professional help to snap me out of it and today, I manage it with medication. The road to recovery can be a difficult one, but it's worth it.

First of all, if you are really depressed and having thoughts of harming yourself, you should seek immediate medical attention as soon as possible. If your depression lasts more than two weeks, you should consider going to see a psychiatrist/psychologist to talk about your symptoms. If it has only been a few days, get out and do something you enjoy!

Try getting on an anti-depression medication. You can also go and talk to a therapist. It helps some people to be able to get their thoughts out and say what they want without having someone judgemental spewing their thoughts back at them. Try doing things that make you happy and bring you joy.

The first step is to see your doctor for a complete physical. It there is nothing physical going on, then he needs to refer you to a mental health agency for a psychiatric evaluation. You may be recommended to take medication or see a therapist or a combination of both.

It helped me to listen to positive up-beat music, even when I really didn't want to. I faked feeling better and actually ended up feeling better. How ever you decide to cope, sticking with it is important, make it automatic, so you do not think yourself out of it.
