The local library is the place I would begin. They have many how-to books on this subject. The librarian can help you find the books.

Don't enroll any course nor browse web pages. Go to a book shop and buy an electrical house installations book for beginners. And be careful.

House wiring can seem intimidating at times, but overall, it's fairly straight forward. Fortunatly, stores such as Home Depot and Lowe's sell basic How-To books on the subject, as well most booksellers such as Barnes & Noble, Borders, etc. You'll also probably find books at your local library. There's a plethora of information available on the internet also.

there are many very good books that explain basic wiring. There are also a number of night school classes devoted to basic repairs needed in the home. Great care must be taken and common sense is needed before attempting wiring. Most important is learning about the fuse box so you do not shock yourself.

There are several ways to learn basic house wiring, the most preferable being from a qualified electrician. However as this may be impractical there are many books available on the subject and these are often sold at large building supply chains. Remember that there are also local code requirements involved and above all be safe.

Check your local community college or vocational school - they often have training programs that train professional electricians (in that case you might find a couple of beginner classes that will teach you wiring basics). Also, many community colleges offer classes geared towards home owners - check the class listings to see if there is a house wiring class offered.

There are several good basic courses available through community colleges. Often, they offer programs for a very small fee. Check with the registration office on campus.

You can start with a book, but if you are serious, then signing up for a 101 course at the local college is best.
