The quickest and easiest way (windows OS) is to click the small speaker icon in the bottom right hand corner of your screen... clicking this will bring up a mixer.. find the volume fader that should say something like "Microphone Volume" and turn this up until the volume is adequate but not clipping.

Somewhere in the down right corner of your screen you will have a volume icon. Left click on it and select "recording periferics", then go to the "levels" onglet.

The input channel of your sound board allows to tune its volume. You should open the volume properties window, and make sure the microphone channel is listed (or add it, under Preferences). Then up its volume. There is another "microphone boost" bar that allows to add extra volume (at the expense of possibly adding some noise).

Go to control panel and click volume. Select the advanced tabs button and then you will see the tab called microphone. Click this tab and then use the cursor to increase the volume.

I have used the sound settings in the system tray and managed to put the microphone volume to the max but when I am using voice comms or recording with my headset everyone says that it is too quiet and I should turn up my microphone output.

You need to right click on the sound icon (speaker) on the bottom right of your screen... also called the task manager. Click the volume mixer selection. On the screen that pops up you can adjust the "microphone" or the "line in" categories depending on which operating system you are running.

Double click on the speaker icon in the system tray. When the Volume control dialog appears, adjust the microphone level to your desired level.

Depending on what operating system you're running it may be different. Most operating systems have some sort of bar though which should include volume options. Look for a speaker icon on your bar then click or right click it. Microphone/Input volume should be easy to find from there.

Click Start button, and then Control Panel. In the classic view, locate the "Sounds and Audio Devices" applet, and open it. In the sounds and Audio Devices Properties dialog box, click "Audio" table. Under Sounding recording section. Click the "Volume..." button to increase the volume of your microphone.
