Never disparage either of their parents. Never intervene when both biological parents are in a conflict, unless there is actual physical risk to the children.

By not trying to replace their natural parent, be there friend and allow them to be kids. Now you will have to set rules etc, but be there for them.

Only time will show them who you really are. Give your stepchildren a little space and they will figure out your motives are true.
