How can I help when my family hates my sister's boyfriend?

I do not hate him and I am caught in the middle.

If you are impartial, you may be the best one to bridge the gap. Does the boyfriend need to change some of his behavior? Tell him diplomatically. Is your family judging him unfairly? Tell them graciously. You may have to work on both sides to solve the problem.

You need to make it clear to the rest of the family that they cannot control who your sister cares for or who she does not. They need to realize that they must not push her away from him, that she has to make her own decisions. Meanwhile, stand your ground and stay neutral. Good luck!

Help them understand that what is important is their love and that those who hate him will grow to like him slowly as their loves grows strong. You do not need to convince them to love him but just let them be and encourage the two in love so that in the end love will triumph.

Sometimes "helping" is a hinderance. sometimes it is best to remain neutral. Make it clear that you love each family member. Never deliver messages or pass information for anyone.
