Well, if they are not working, that is a clear thing. There is a manufacturer's defect. So take it back and get them to replace it for you. Tell them you are not satisfied.
For my reccomendation about your fixing your washer it would be to buy another one. Since it is old it is going to be hard to find parts to fix it and they will probably be more expensive since they are so hard to find.
It might be a broken belt. If the machine doesn't spin, it won't drain. Take the front off the machine and check to see that the belt that connects to the drum is tight and not broken. Check your manuel for the replacement part number.
If this is machine is less than a year old, I would start by calling Whirlpool for a warrantee call. If its not spinning or draining, but does appear to have power, the problem is most likely under warrantee.
